Rahimo FC have begun the 2026-27 Burkina Faso football season with silverware after successfully defending their Super Coupe AJSB title against Vitesse FC.
The reigning champions defeated Vitesse 4-3 on penalties after the final ended 1-1 in normal time at Wobi Stadium in Bobo-Dioulasso on Saturday, 22 August.
The victory gave Rahimo their third Super Coupe AJSB title and continued the club’s rapid rise in Burkinabe football.
Rahimo, known as the “Academicians” from Bama, entered the match as defending champions and held their nerve in the decisive penalty shootout after Vitesse had pushed them throughout the final.
The result also provides Rahimo with an early trophy as they prepare for another demanding season, including their participation in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League.
For Vitesse, the defeat came despite an impressive campaign that had already delivered the club’s first major honour.
Vitesse won the 2026 Coupe du Faso to qualify for the Confederation Cup, and Saturday’s match represented their first appearance in the Super Coupe.
The meeting between the two sides therefore provided an early indication of their readiness for the new campaign, particularly with both clubs facing continental commitments.
Rahimo were founded in 2012 by former Burkina Faso international Rahim Ouedraogo and have steadily established themselves among the country’s leading clubs.
Their latest Super Cup success follows previous victories in 2020 and 2025.
The club’s trophy cabinet now includes three Burkina Faso league titles, two Coupe du Faso trophies and three Super Coupe AJSB victories.
The latest success strengthens Rahimo’s reputation as one of the country’s emerging football powers.
Their ability to defend the Super Cup also gives them confidence ahead of their CAF Champions League campaign, where they will represent Burkina Faso in the preliminary rounds.
Vitesse, meanwhile, will enter the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time after their historic Coupe du Faso triumph.
The club’s appearance in the Super Cup was another landmark moment in its development, even though the team ultimately fell short in the penalty shootout.
The final was also significant because it effectively opened the 2026-27 Fasofoot season.
With both teams involved in African competition, the match offered more than just a domestic trophy. It gave the players an opportunity to test themselves before the intensity of continental football begins.
Rahimo’s success means they have now won the Super Cup in three different seasons, underlining their consistency at the top of the Burkinabe game.
Their progress has been particularly notable since the club’s establishment in 2012, with the side continuing to add major domestic honours to its collection.
The victory also moves Rahimo closer to the achievements of EFO and AS Douanes, clubs that have previously enjoyed sustained success in Burkina Faso football.
