Al Ahly moved to the top of the 2026-27 Egyptian Premier League standings after beating Abu Qir Fertilizers, while the fifth round produced important victories for Ceramica Cleopatra, Arab Contractors and Smouha.
The round began on Monday, 14 September, with Smouha recording their first victory of the season against Tala’ea El-Gaish. Ceramica Cleopatra also secured a significant win over National Bank, adding further pressure to the teams competing near the top of the table.
Al Ahly entered the round looking to recover from their draw with Al-Mokawloon Al-Arab in the previous week. They responded by collecting three points against Abu Qir Fertilizers, strengthening their position at the summit before the international break.
Pyramids, meanwhile, remained among the leading contenders after maintaining a perfect record in their opening four matches. Their fifth-round fixture against Eastern Enppi is scheduled for Thursday, 17 September.
Zamalek also entered the round hoping to extend its winning run, but the team’s meeting with Ghazl El-Mahalla is not scheduled until Wednesday, 16 September.
The round featured several important fixtures, including the meeting between Ceramica Cleopatra and National Bank, as well as the clash between Al-Masry and Al-Ittihad Alexandria.
Results of the fifth round
Smouha began the round with a 1-0 victory over Tala’ea El-Gaish at the Military Sports Authority Stadium on Monday. Ceramica Cleopatra then defeated National Bank 2-0 at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium.
On Tuesday, Assiut Petroleum beat Modern Sport 2-0 at Borg El Arab Stadium, while Arab Contractors recorded a 2-0 victory against Wadi Degla at Peace Stadium.
Al-Masry secured a narrow 1-0 win over Al-Ittihad Alexandria at New Suez Stadium. Al Ahly also claimed a 2-0 victory against Abu Qir Fertilizers at Cairo International Stadium.
The remaining matches of the round will be played between Wednesday and Thursday.
El Gouna are scheduled to face Suez Petrojet on Wednesday at Khaled Bishara Stadium, while Ghazl El-Mahalla will host Zamalek at Ghazl El-Mahalla Stadium later that evening.
On Thursday, Zed will meet Channel at Cairo International Stadium before Eastern Enppi face Pyramids at Peace Stadium.
Egyptian Premier League standings
Following the completed matches, Al Ahly lead the table with 13 points from five matches. Ceramica Cleopatra are second with 12 points, while Pyramids have the same number of points from four games.
Zamalek sit fourth with 10 points from four matches, followed by Modern Sport and Alexandria Union, who also have 10 points each.
Arab Contractors and Tala’ea El-Gaish occupy seventh and eighth places respectively, with seven points apiece. Channel, who have played four matches, are ninth with six points.
Al-Masry and National Bank also have six points, while Tigris Valley have five.
Suez Petrojet, Eastern Enppi and Zed each have four points, as do Smouha following their first victory of the campaign.
Abu Qir Fertilizers have three points, while El Gouna and Assiut Petroleum remain near the bottom of the table with two points each. Ghazl El-Mahalla are currently last with one point from four matches.
With several fixtures still to be played, the standings could change again before the fifth round is completed. The results have nevertheless intensified the early competition at both ends of the Egyptian Premier League table.
