Rafael Nadal is one step away from joining the Real Madrid board, with the club set to put forward his appointment for approval at an extraordinary general meeting on 21 November.
The Spanish tennis great is expected to be approved by the club’s members, which would allow him to formally take up the position.
Real Madrid announced the proposal in an official statement, published by Marca, which said: “Proposal from the board of directors for approval by the extraordinary general meeting, concerning the appointment of Mr Rafael Nadal Parera as a member of the board of directors of Real Madrid, in accordance with Article 46 of the statutes.”
The club added: “In this regard, the board unanimously agreed to submit the following proposal to the extraordinary general meeting for approval: to ratify the appointment of Mr Rafael Nadal Parera as a member of the board of directors of Real Madrid, in accordance with Article 46 of the statutes.”
The ordinary general meeting will take place on 21 November, beginning at 09:00 for the first sitting and 10:00 for the second.
Members will discuss the president’s report, as well as the review and, if appropriate, approval of the financial settlement, annual report, balance sheet and profit-and-loss account for the 2025/2026 financial year. The consolidated accounts for the club and its subsidiary companies will also be considered.
The meeting will also address the proposed consolidated income and expenditure budget and activities plan for the 2026/2027 financial year, along with the proposed membership fees for the 2027/2028 season. Questions and comments will be included on the agenda.
Extraordinary meeting to focus on Nadal appointment
The main development will follow immediately afterwards, when the extraordinary general meeting is held. It will have a single item on its agenda: the appointment of Nadal to the Real Madrid board.
For Real Madrid, Nadal is regarded as one of the greatest sporting legends of all time and a role model because of both his achievements in sport and his character.
Nadal thanked Real Madrid for the offer through his social media accounts and confirmed that he had accepted it.
“I would like to thank president Florentino Perez and the board of directors for proposing that I join the Real Madrid board,” he said. “I have accepted this proposal with great enthusiasm and I am looking forward to learning and contributing as much as I can.”
The announcement was made on 07 November 2026.
