Rafael Leao: Chelsea linked with move for AC Milan and Portugal forward

Rafael Leao, the Portugal international forward at AC Milan, is being linked with a summer move to Premier League side Chelsea. The London club are monitoring the 27-year-old left winger as they assess high-profile attacking targets ahead of the new season.

Leao, who also holds Angolan nationality, is under contract at San Siro until 30 June 2028, meaning Milan are under no pressure to sell and any deal would likely require a substantial fee. He is currently valued at around €50 million, though Milan have previously shown they are willing to hold firm on key assets.

Since joining from Lille in August 2019 for €49.5 million, Leao has become a central figure in Milan’s attack, making 227 Serie A appearances with 64 goals and 50 assists. His performances were pivotal in the club’s 2021-22 title win, a season in which he was also named Serie A Player of the Year and later recognised as Footballer of the Year at Milan.

On the European stage, Leao has featured regularly in the Champions League for the Rossoneri, while at international level he was part of the Portugal squad that won the UEFA Nations League in 2025. Most recently, he played in all five of Portugal’s matches at the 2026 World Cup, contributing a goal and an assist.

Chelsea’s interest comes at a time when elite wide forwards are in high demand, and Leao’s blend of top-level domestic and international experience has put him on their radar. For now, however, he remains Milan’s No.10 and a key attacking option with two years left on his deal.
