The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to arrive in the country within days for his official unveiling.
The Portuguese manager, who has agreed to a short-term contract, will lead Ghana into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a crucial period for the national team as preparations intensify ahead of the global tournament.
According to the association’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, Queiroz’s arrival is imminent, with plans already in place for a formal introduction. Upon his arrival, the 73-year-old is expected to address the media and outline his plans for the team.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Asante Twum said the coach will present his vision, expectations and ambitions during a press conference, offering insight into how he intends to guide the Black Stars through the upcoming campaign.
Queiroz takes over from Otto Addo, who was dismissed in March after a series of underwhelming results in friendly matches against Austria and Germany. His appointment signals a change in direction for Ghana as the team seeks to improve its recent performances on the international stage.
The experienced coach brings a strong track record, having previously managed national teams including Egypt, Colombia and Oman. His extensive background in international football is widely viewed as a key factor in his selection, with the Ghana Football Association aiming to benefit from his experience at major tournaments.
Ghana is preparing for its fifth appearance at the World Cup, and expectations are high following disappointing exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions. The arrival of Queiroz is seen as a strategic step to strengthen the team’s competitiveness and deliver improved results.
Preparations for the tournament are set to begin next month, starting with a friendly match against Mexico. Further fixtures against Wales, Panama, England and Croatia are scheduled as part of the build-up and competition phase, providing the team with opportunities to test itself against a range of international opponents.
The focus, however, remains firmly on Queiroz’s arrival, which is expected to mark the beginning of a new chapter for Ghanaian football. His unveiling will provide the first indication of how he plans to shape the squad and approach the challenge ahead.
With the countdown to the World Cup already underway, attention now turns to when the new coach will touch down in Ghana and formally begin his tenure.
