Pyramids protest referee after Zamalek defeat

Pyramids FC have submitted an official protest to the Egyptian Football Association following controversial refereeing decisions in their defeat to Zamalek SC.

The complaint targets the officiating team led by Mohamed El Ghazi after incidents during the Egyptian League championship group clash at Cairo International Stadium.

Two Penalty Appeals Spark Outrage

According to club officials and comments relayed by Ahmed Shobeir, Pyramids believe they were denied two clear penalty kicks.

The first incident involved Mostafa Zico, who was allegedly fouled by Omar Gaber just before halftime—a decision both the referee and VAR chose not to review.

The second appeal came when Walid El Karti headed the ball, which appeared to strike the arm of Ahmed Fatouh inside the penalty area, again waved away.

Referees Committee Backs Decision

Despite the protest, support for the referee has emerged internally.

A source within the referees committee confirmed that Oscar Ruiz, head of the committee, backed El Ghazi’s decision—particularly regarding the challenge involving Zico and Gaber.

Zamalek Secure Narrow Victory

On the pitch, Zamalek SC claimed a 1-0 win thanks to a decisive goal from Juan Bezerra.

The goal came after a well-delivered cross from Chico Panza, which Bezerra converted with precision to seal all three points.

Tension Builds in Title Race

The result and subsequent protest add further tension to the Egyptian League championship phase, with officiating decisions once again under scrutiny.

For Pyramids, the focus now shifts to whether their complaint will lead to any formal review—or simply fuel ongoing debate around refereeing standards.
