Pyramids, Berkane face stern tests in CAF Champions League Group A

RS Berkane, Pyramids FC, Rivers United and Power Dynamos have been drawn together in Group A of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, setting up a contest that brings together clubs from Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria and Zambia.

The group offers a mix of continental pedigree, financial investment and ambition, with each side facing a different challenge in the race to reach the knockout stages.

Egyptian champions Pyramids FC enter the competition with significant financial backing and a squad built to compete for major honours. After establishing themselves as a force in Egyptian football, they will be eager to translate that investment into consistent success on the continental stage.

However, they face a demanding test against RS Berkane, one of Morocco’s most accomplished clubs in recent African competitions. Berkane built their reputation through success in the CAF Confederation Cup and will now look to make their mark in the Champions League, where the demands and quality of opposition are different.

Rivers United and Power Dynamos aim to upset the favourites

Nigeria’s Rivers United add another difficult dimension to the group. Playing in Nigeria can present a significant challenge for visiting teams, with travel demands and unfamiliar conditions potentially influencing results. Rivers United will see the group as an opportunity to challenge the North African sides and strengthen their standing in African club football.

Zambia’s Power Dynamos also have an opportunity to upset the established order. Their performances across the group stage will be crucial if they are to compete with opponents carrying considerable continental ambitions.

The travel between the four countries could also test squad depth and recovery, particularly as clubs balance domestic commitments with demanding away fixtures. Managing those demands will be important over the course of the group stage.

While Pyramids and Berkane may attract attention because of their resources and recent continental profiles, neither can afford to underestimate Rivers United or Power Dynamos.

Group A therefore promises a competitive battle in which consistency, away results and squad management could prove decisive. For all four clubs, the objective will be to turn their ambitions into results and secure a place in the Champions League knockout rounds.
