Pitso Mosimane visited Al Ahly’s base in Cairo as Bafana Bafana prepare to meet Egypt in an international friendly on Sunday.
The match will be played at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, 4 October, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 SA time.
Mosimane’s visit came ahead of a fixture in which he will face the country where he enjoyed the most successful period of his club management career. He joined Al Ahly from Mamelodi Sundowns in September 2020 and left the Egyptian club in June 2022.
During his time with Al Ahly, Mosimane guided the club to two CAF Champions League titles and helped them reach three successive finals in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
The now 62-year-old was in charge of 97 competitive matches during his spell. Al Ahly won 65 of those games, drew 22 and lost 10.
Mosimane’s Al Ahly record
His honours with the Cairo-based club also included two CAF Super Cup titles, one Egypt Cup and two Egyptian Super Cup trophies.
Mosimane further led Al Ahly to two FIFA Club World Cup bronze medals, an achievement that represented significant success for the club. Al Ahly are also known as the Red Devils of Africa.
The meeting with Egypt gives Mosimane a return to familiar surroundings as he prepares Bafana Bafana for their latest international assignment. His previous achievements with Al Ahly remain a notable part of his managerial career, particularly the club’s back-to-back CAF Champions League triumphs and appearances in three consecutive finals.
Bafana Bafana and Egypt will contest the friendly at Cairo International Stadium, with the match taking place on Sunday evening.
