Former Orlando Pirates forward Lebohang Mokoena has urged his former club to make an ambitious move for Peter Shalulile, saying the striker could be key to their title ambitions.
Mokoena believes Pirates should be prepared to invest heavily to secure the services of the Mamelodi Sundowns forward, who has been a consistent performer in the Premier Soccer League and a central figure in Sundowns’ recent success.
Speaking about the club’s attacking options, Mokoena stressed that while there are several strikers available on the market, Shalulile stands out due to his experience and proven track record.
“There are a lot of options in the market for a striker, but if we have to break the bank, let Peter come in to share the experience of winning the league,” Mokoena said.
Pirates are currently pushing to re-establish themselves as dominant contenders domestically, and Mokoena believes the addition of a player with Shalulile’s pedigree could help close the gap at the top.
Beyond his goalscoring ability, Mokoena highlighted the importance of mentality and leadership, suggesting that players who have consistently competed for and won titles bring added value to any squad.
“You need those kinds of players because they bring positive energy around the team, because they know what it takes to win,” he noted.
The Namibian international has built a reputation as one of the league’s most reliable forwards, playing a crucial role in Sundowns’ sustained dominance. His experience in high-pressure situations, according to Mokoena, could be instrumental for a Pirates side seeking to convert potential into silverware.
While acknowledging that transfer decisions ultimately rest with the club’s technical team, Mokoena insisted that signing Shalulile would represent a clear statement of intent.
“For me, if the coach takes him, it’s good, but first option I would say, Peter come to Orlando, we need someone to finish there,” he added.
