Francesco Pio Esposito will wear Italy’s number nine shirt against Turkey on Monday after Moise Kean was forced to withdraw from the squad through injury.
Italy face Vincenzo Montella’s side at the Dall’Ara in Bologna at 19.45 BST, in their final Nations League fixture of the extra-long September-October international break.
The Inter striker had worn number seven earlier in the international window, but will now take the shirt previously assigned to Kean. Nicolo Cambiaghi has been given number seven in his place.
Italy have already beaten Turkey during this international break, winning 4-1 away from home. That was Roberto Mancini’s second match of his second spell in the Azzurri dugout and the first victory of his second stint.
The win came after Italy opened the break with a 2-0 home defeat by Belgium. They then drew 1-1 away against France on Friday, a result described as encouraging.
Because the matches are competitive Nations League fixtures, Mancini has been required to name a 23-man matchday squad.
There are three changes from the group selected for the draw in France. As well as Kean, Samuele Ricci and Mohamed Ali Zoma have been left out for the meeting with Turkey. Samuele Inacio, Alessandro Romano and Nicolo Cambiaghi have been brought into the matchday squad.
Romano has taken number four, which had been allocated to Ricci for the France match. Esposito’s promotion to number nine completes the changes to the relevant squad numbers.
Italy’s squad numbers for the match are:
Goalkeepers: 1 Gianluigi Donnarumma, 12 Marco Carnesecchi, 13 Guglielmo Vicario.
Defenders: 2 Michael Kayode, 3 Matteo Ruggeri, 5 Riccardo Calafiori, 6 Alessandro Bastoni, 19 Giorgio Scalvini, 22 Giovanni Di Lorenzo, 23 Gianluca Mancini.
Midfielders: 4 Alessandro Romano, 7 Nicolo Cambiaghi, 8 Sandro Tonali, 10 Nicolo Fagioli, 15 Issa Doumbia, 16 Davide Frattesi, 18 Nicolo Barella.
