Pedro Porro dismisses Real Madrid and Barcelona transfer rumours

Tottenham defender Pedro Porro says there was no genuine approach from Real Madrid or Barcelona during the last transfer window, despite reports linking him with both Spanish clubs.

Porro, 27, acknowledged that he would like to return to Spain at some point, but stressed that his immediate focus remains on Tottenham, where he is under contract until the summer of 2031.

The right-back agreed a new deal with Spurs last season, even though the club had finished 17th in the Premier League in each of the previous two campaigns.

Porro subsequently set aside Tottenham’s domestic struggles to play an important role in Spain’s 2026 World Cup win. His performances at the tournament led to speculation that he could move back to his home country, with Real Madrid and Barcelona reported to be interested.

However, speaking to El Larguero, Porro said those reports did not reflect any concrete offer.

“Obviously, I’m really looking forward to returning to Spain one day. It’s my country and I like the league,” he said.

“But right now, it would be very unfair to talk about anything other than my club because I’m under contract. They [Spurs] have shown me a lot of respect, which is mutual.”

Asked whether Real Madrid or Barcelona had attempted to sign him in the most recent transfer window, Porro replied: “No. There was interest because they ask what your situation is but there wasn’t real interest.

“There were rumours, but I was focused on doing well for my country. If there’s genuine interest, they call you directly, and that didn’t happen.

“Some clubs did enquire to find out my situation, but there was no genuine interest. I didn’t want to pay too much attention to it.”
