Pape Gueye reveals sleepless nights after Villarreal’s 6-0 humiliation by PSG

Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain’s 6-0 demolition of Villarreal left him struggling to sleep as he continues to search for answers following the humiliating defeat.

The Villarreal midfielder described the result as the heaviest loss of his career after the Spanish side conceded six goals against the French champions, including four within the opening 17 minutes.

Speaking to DAZN while reviewing footage of the match alongside Villarreal’s video analyst, Gueye admitted that the defeat had been difficult to process.

“I didn’t sleep much, because we’re trying to understand what happened. It’s the first time this has ever happened to me—the first time I’ve conceded six goals in a single match,” he said.

The Senegal international, formerly of Marseille, acknowledged that his side struggled to cope with Paris Saint-Germain’s movement and tactical organisation throughout the encounter.

Gueye explained that the French side constantly switched positions, making it difficult for Villarreal’s players to maintain their defensive structure and track their opponents.

“At times, I had Hakimi next to me, and at other times, it was the youngster Mayulu. They really knew how to move and position themselves,” he added.

His comments underline the difficulties Villarreal experienced against a PSG side that combined attacking quality with impressive movement to overwhelm their opponents.

Luis Enrique’s men were particularly ruthless in the opening stages, scoring four times in just eight minutes to put the contest beyond Villarreal’s reach.

Joao Neves opened the scoring before Desire Doue, Senny Mayulu and Fabian Ruiz also found the net as PSG raced into a commanding 4-0 advantage.

Ruiz struck again shortly after the restart to extend the visitors’ lead to five goals, while substitute David Boly completed the scoring in the 78th minute.

The result represented another emphatic performance from PSG, who extended their winning run to 10 consecutive matches.

For Gueye, however, the immediate concern has been understanding how Villarreal allowed the match to slip away so dramatically.
