Orlando Pirates could give two of their nine new signings starting places when they begin the defence of their Betway Premiership title against newly promoted Milford FC on Saturday.
The Buccaneers will host Milford as they return to competitive action, with expectations high that they can open the campaign with a victory in front of their home supporters. The club enjoyed an encouraging pre-season under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and will be determined to carry that momentum into the opening fixture.
Pirates are expected to introduce a refreshed line-up after adding nine players to their squad, although the team will still aim to preserve the winning mentality that helped them lift the league trophy last season.
Sipho Chaine is expected to remain the club’s first-choice goalkeeper after producing another consistent campaign. There appears to be little doubt that he will continue between the posts for the opening match.
In defence, new signing Kamohelo Sebelebele is tipped to make his debut at right-back. Captain Nkosinathi Sibisi is expected to continue in central defence, where he could be joined by Lebone Seema.
Neo Rapoo is the leading candidate to start on the left side of the back four. He could be selected ahead of Nkosikhona Ndaba and the more experienced Deon Hotto.
The midfield may contain one of the more notable selections of the predicted team. Youngster Camren Dansin impressed during Pirates’ pre-season tour of Spain and could be rewarded with a surprise starting opportunity. Thalente Mbatha is expected to partner him, providing balance in the centre of the pitch.
Oswin Appollis could be given licence to operate in a free attacking role behind the main striker. Tshepang Moremi is likely to offer pace from the left wing, while Bohlale Ngwato, another new arrival, could make his debut on the right.
Boitumelo Radiopane is backed to lead the attack as Pirates look to make a convincing start to their title defence.
