Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana could leave the club permanently, with Trabzonspor reportedly interested in turning his current loan spell in Turkey into a permanent transfer.
The Cameroon international is spending a second consecutive season on loan at Trabzonspor and has impressed the Turkish club’s leadership with his performances. His form has reportedly strengthened the club’s desire to keep him beyond the end of his loan.
Manchester United are understood to no longer regard the 30-year-old as part of their long-term plans, potentially opening the way for a permanent departure.
According to Türkiye, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan wants to move quickly to begin negotiations with Manchester United and Onana’s representatives.
The English club has reportedly placed a valuation of about €10m on the goalkeeper. That figure is considered expensive by Trabzonspor, particularly because of Onana’s wages.
His annual salary is estimated at €5.5m, excluding bonuses, adding another significant consideration to any potential permanent agreement.
Talks are expected to cover several key aspects of a possible deal, including the transfer fee, Onana’s salary and the duration of a new contract.
Trabzonspor are reportedly hoping to persuade Manchester United to reduce their asking price as they seek to retain the goalkeeper on a permanent basis.
Onana, meanwhile, is said to be open to remaining in Turkey for the long term after rebuilding his confidence during his time with the club.
The goalkeeper has already recorded two clean sheets in six league appearances for Trabzonspor, providing evidence of a positive spell since moving to the Turkish side.
A permanent transfer would bring an end to Onana’s time at Manchester United, where he arrived from Inter Milan for approximately €54.5m.
His period at the English club has been described as difficult, but his performances in Turkey have given him an opportunity to regain confidence and establish himself again.
Onana remains under contract with Manchester United until 2028, meaning any permanent move would require an agreement between the two clubs over the terms of his departure.
Trabzonspor’s interest could therefore lead to a significant change in the goalkeeper’s career, with the Turkish club seeking to build on what has been a productive loan spell.
According to reports from Turkey, negotiations could also involve a long-term commitment from Onana, with a five-year contract potentially being considered.
For Trabzonspor, the main obstacles appear to be the size of Manchester United’s transfer demand and the goalkeeper’s salary. The club wants to lower the reported €10m asking price while also reaching an agreement over Onana’s wages.
Manchester United, meanwhile, could use the negotiations to secure a permanent departure for a player who is reportedly no longer considered part of the club’s long-term plans.
With talks expected to centre on the transfer fee, salary and contract length, Onana’s future could ultimately be decided by whether the two clubs can reach an agreement that satisfies both sides.
For the goalkeeper, a permanent move would offer the possibility of continuing his career in Turkey, where he has reportedly rediscovered his confidence and made a positive impression during his latest loan spell.
