Omar Megeed, the Egypt-Germany attacking midfielder currently without a club, has been linked with a move to 2. Bundesliga side Greuther Furth as the Franconian club explore low-cost options to bolster their creative ranks.
The 20-year-old left Hamburger SV II at the start of July and is available on a free transfer, with Furth understood to be assessing a deal that would involve only salary and bonuses rather than a fee. Megeed is valued at around €150,000, a figure that reflects his recent status in the German fourth tier but would not apply if he joins as a free agent.
Standing at 1.93m and operating primarily as an attacking midfielder, Megeed built his senior experience in the Regionalliga Nord, making 69 appearances for HSV’s second team. He contributed three goals and seven assists at that level, having earlier impressed in Hamburg’s youth setup.
Born in Hamburg in August 2005, Megeed progressed through HSV’s academy after youth spells with Einigkeit and then Suderelbe. He reached the first-team squad at Hamburg and made brief appearances in the 2. Bundesliga before dropping back to the club’s reserves, where he continued to feature regularly.
Furth are targeting technical depth between midfield and attack and have turned to the free-agent market following the expiry of several contracts early in the summer. Megeed’s ability to occupy central attacking positions and his experience in German professional structures have put him on their shortlist.
No agreement has yet been finalised, and Megeed remains unattached after his contract with Hamburger SV II ended on 1 July 2026.
