Ntji Tounkara: Spain-Mali midfielder signs for Ponferradina on free move from Cordoba CF B

Spain-Mali midfielder Ntji Tounkara has joined Ponferradina on a free transfer from Cordoba CF B, signing a contract with the Primera Federacion side until 30 June 2028.

The 21-year-old central midfielder makes the switch after a spell in the Cordoba system that included loans in the Spanish lower leagues. His arrival strengthens Ponferradina’s options in the middle of the pitch ahead of the new campaign in Primera Federacion Group I.

Tounkara, who stands at 1.78m, has been building senior experience across Spain’s third and second tiers. Last season he featured regularly in Primera Federacion Group II, making 30 appearances and contributing one goal and one assist while logging 1,765 minutes on the pitch. He also tasted LaLiga2 action, playing in two matches at that level.

Born on 10 January 2005, Tounkara has represented both Spain and Mali at youth level and is listed with dual nationality. Primarily a central midfielder, he is expected to compete for a place in the heart of Ponferradina’s side as they look to push on in the third tier.

The move to Ponferradina continues a career that has already taken in time with Alaves’ youth and C teams before his switch to Cordoba CF B in 2024, also on a free transfer. His latest transfer keeps him in Spanish football on a long-term deal, tying him to Ponferradina until the summer of 2028.
