Norwegian side Fredrikstad snap up Ivory Coast U20 talent

Fredrikstad FK have confirmed the signing of highly rated Ivorian midfielder Daan Dos Millos Yoboue, with the 17-year-old set to officially join the club when he turns 18 in November.

The Norwegian top-flight side announced the deal as part of their long-term recruitment strategy, securing a player widely regarded as one of the emerging talents from Ivory Coast’s youth system.

Yoboue, who is currently an Ivory Coast Under-20 international, has been on the club’s radar for over a year following a series of trial periods.

His journey to Fredrikstad began in March 2025, when he first arrived for an initial assessment. Since then, he has returned for multiple training spells, gradually convincing the club’s technical team of his potential.

Most notably, the teenager spent the entirety of Fredrikstad’s 2026 pre-season with the squad, allowing coaches to closely evaluate his development and integration within the team.

The club’s decision to complete the signing reflects confidence in both his current ability and future growth.

While he will only officially register as a player upon reaching the age of 18, the groundwork for his transition into European football has already been laid.

Yoboue developed through the ranks of the Jean Evrard Kouassi Football Club academy, where he gained recognition for his composure and technical qualities in midfield.

His playing style has drawn attention for its maturity, particularly given his age. Coaches describe him as calm under pressure, with a strong ability to read the game and make effective decisions in tight situations.

His strengths extend beyond composure. The midfielder is known for his capacity to progress the ball through midfield, combining vision with an ability to drive forward and support attacking phases.

At the same time, his tactical awareness and work rate allow him to contribute defensively, making him a well-rounded presence in central areas.

Those who have worked closely with Yoboue over the past year have also highlighted his leadership qualities.

Despite being one of the younger players in the squad, he has demonstrated confidence and a strong mentality, attributes that have impressed the Fredrikstad coaching staff.

“During the last 1,5~ years I have talked a lot with Daan, so I do feel proud. This is a great kid, and a great signing for the club.”

The move represents another step in Fredrikstad’s efforts to invest in promising young talent, as the club looks to build for the future while maintaining competitiveness in Norway’s top division.

Historically one of the country’s most successful clubs, Fredrikstad have won multiple league titles and domestic cups, and continue to focus on developing players capable of contributing at the highest level.

For Yoboue, the transfer offers an opportunity to continue his development in a European environment, with a clear pathway into senior football.

His involvement in pre-season has already provided a glimpse of what he can offer, and expectations will grow as he prepares to formally join the squad later this year.
