Noni Madueke’s limited involvement at Arsenal has attracted attention from Atletico de Madrid and Juventus, with both clubs monitoring the England international’s situation, according to The Telegraph.
The 24-year-old joined Arsenal with high expectations after leaving Chelsea, but only a year later his role under Mikel Arteta appears to be diminishing. The forward of Nigerian descent has made five appearances in all competitions since the start of the season, totalling just 176 minutes.
Madueke has scored only once, with his sole goal coming in the Carabao Cup.
His lack of opportunities represents a difficult situation for a player Arsenal recruited at considerable cost. Madueke’s pace, ability to beat defenders and direct attacking style were among the qualities that attracted the London club to him.
However, he has struggled to establish himself in Arteta’s rotation, while competition for places in the Arsenal squad has limited his involvement.
Interest from Atletico and Juventus
That reduced playing time has now prompted interest elsewhere in Europe. The Telegraph reports that Atletico de Madrid and Juventus are following Madueke closely and have appreciated his profile for several years.
Both clubs could look to take advantage of his uncertain position at Arsenal and attempt to persuade him to move away from north London.
The January transfer window could therefore become an important point in Madueke’s season. Should his status remain unchanged over the coming weeks, he may consider seeking a move to secure more regular football and revive a career that appeared to be moving in a different direction when he arrived at Arsenal.
The situation leaves a question over whether Madueke remains part of Arteta’s long-term plans. The Arsenal manager could still rely on him during the rest of the campaign, but the forward’s limited minutes and the competition within the squad have created uncertainty over his future.
Madueke may soon face a choice between staying at Arsenal and attempting to change his situation or leaving in search of a starting role elsewhere. If he does depart, Atletico de Madrid and Juventus could be among the first clubs to make their interest concrete.
Arsenal’s next fixture will be against Leeds United in the sixth round of the English championship.
