Hull City are exploring a move for German-Nigerian goalkeeper Noah Atubolu from Freiburg as they prepare for life in the Premier League. The 24-year-old, who represents Freiburg and holds both German and Nigerian nationality, is being monitored as a potential addition to the newly promoted side’s goalkeeping department.
Talks are at a preliminary stage, with the chances of a deal currently rated at around one in three, and no agreement in place between the clubs. Atubolu is under contract with Freiburg until 30 June 2027 and is valued at about €25 million, meaning Hull would need to commit a significant fee to convince the Bundesliga club to sell.
Born in Freiburg im Breisgau and standing at 1.90m, Atubolu has come through the ranks at his hometown club, progressing from youth level to Freiburg’s first team after stepping up from SC Freiburg II in 2021. He has since established himself as their number one, wearing the No 1 shirt this season.
Atubolu’s development has been marked by honours at club and youth level. He was part of the Freiburg side that reached the German Cup final in 2021-22 and previously won the German Under-19 Cup with the club’s academy. His performances for Germany’s youth set-up were recognised with a Fritz Walter Bronze medal in 2023.
Hull’s interest reflects a search for a long-term solution in goal ahead of their Premier League campaign, but Freiburg’s strong contractual position and Atubolu’s status as first-choice keeper mean any negotiations are expected to be complex, with no imminent breakthrough anticipated.
