Nine sanctioned after heated relegation round in Egypt

The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association has announced a series of disciplinary measures following the fourth round of matches in the relegation group of the 2025–2026 Egyptian Premier League season.

A total of nine individuals, including eight players and one coach, have been handed suspensions and fines after incidents recorded during the latest round of fixtures. The decisions come as part of the association’s ongoing efforts to enforce discipline during a critical phase of the competition.

League structure adds intensity to relegation battle

This season’s Egyptian Premier League features 21 teams competing across two stages. The opening phase is played in a single round-robin format, after which clubs are split into two groups for the second stage. The relegation group, currently underway, has seen increased pressure as teams fight to secure their top-flight status.

The latest sanctions reflect the heightened intensity of these fixtures, with multiple players penalised for accumulating yellow cards or receiving dismissals.

Match-by-match breakdown of sanctions

In the match between Ghazl El Mahalla and Wadi Degla, Wadi Degla player Mahmoud El Sayed Ahmed Abdel Latif was suspended for one match and fined 5,000 Egyptian pounds after receiving his third yellow card.

A similar decision was taken in the fixture involving Pharco FC and Haras El Hodoud, where Abdullah Ahmed Hafez Hussein was handed a one-match ban and a fine of 5,000 pounds for accumulating three cautions. The same sanction was applied to Hossam Sweisi of Tala’ea El Geish following their match against Petrojet.

In a more severe case, Ahmed Madbouli of National Bank Club received a two-match suspension and a 5,000-pound fine after being shown a red card in his team’s game against Al Mokawloon Al Arab. From the same match, Al Mokawloon player Mustafa Sobhi Abdel Fattah Abdel Rahman was suspended for one match and fined for receiving his third yellow card.

The disciplinary measures extended to coaching staff, with Talaat Moharram Hussein Ahmed, general coach of Al Mokawloon Al Arab, suspended for one match and fined 5,000 pounds after being sent off for receiving two warnings during the game.

Elsewhere, in the match between Modern Sport FC and El Gouna FC, Hamdi Mohamed El Metwally Hamed of Modern Sport was also suspended for one match and fined for his third yellow card.

In the fixture between Ismailia Electricity and Ismaily SC, both Abdel Fattah Ashraf Hamed Shata and Abdullah Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed were handed one-match suspensions and fines after receiving their third cautions.

Discipline key as season reaches decisive phase

With the relegation group entering a crucial stage, the association’s decisions underline the importance of maintaining discipline on the pitch. As teams continue to battle for survival, further sanctions could play a decisive role in shaping the outcome of the season.
