Nigeria star Terem Moffi returns to Nice after brief Porto spell

Nigerian striker Terem Moffi is set to return to OGC Nice after FC Porto decided against making his loan move permanent, leaving the Super Eagles forward facing an uncertain future ahead of the new season.

The Portuguese champions confirmed that Moffi will leave the club at the end of his loan spell, bringing a short-lived chapter in Portugal to a close after just a few months.

The decision means the 26-year-old will head back to France, where he remains contracted to Nice, although the player himself has admitted he does not yet know what the next step in his career will be.

For African football followers, Moffi’s situation is one of several high-profile transfer stories involving leading players from the continent as clubs across Europe prepare for the summer transfer window.

The Nigerian forward arrived at Porto during the winter transfer period on a loan deal that included an option to buy worth €8 million.

The move was viewed as an opportunity for the striker to revive his season and make an impact with one of Portugal’s biggest clubs.

However, despite Porto going on to win the league title, the club opted not to activate the purchase clause negotiated with Nice.

Moffi’s time in Portugal yielded two goals and one assist in 15 appearances across all competitions. While he contributed to the team’s campaign, the figures were not enough to convince Porto to commit to a permanent transfer.

The decision leaves the striker returning to Nice with questions still surrounding his long-term future.

Speaking before Nigeria’s Unity Cup encounter against Jamaica, Moffi acknowledged that he remains unsure about what lies ahead.

“Honestly, I have no idea what’s going to happen. I prefer not to think about the future, only the present. I’m focused on today.”

The comments reflect a player determined to avoid distractions while awaiting clarity over his club situation.

While uncertainty surrounds his future at club level, Moffi’s performances for Nigeria have offered a reminder of his quality and importance to the national team.

The striker captained the Super Eagles in a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe and played a decisive role in the result. Rather than finding the net himself, he created both goals, providing the assists for debutant Femi Azeez.

His display underlined the broader qualities he brings to a team, combining leadership with creativity in the final third.

For Nigeria, Moffi’s form remains encouraging as the country continues to rely on players competing in Europe’s leading leagues.

His experience in France and Portugal, along with his international pedigree, means he remains a significant figure within the Super Eagles set-up.
