Nigeria duo among Sevilla players targeted by masked fans

Players from Sevilla FC were confronted by a group of supporters on Sunday evening after the club’s latest defeat deepened fears of relegation from Spain’s top flight, with Nigeria duo Adams and Ejuke in the mix.

Nigeria internationals Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams were among those caught up in the incident, which took place when the squad returned to their training facility following a 1-0 loss to Real Oviedo.

According to reports, approximately 50 individuals, some wearing masks, gathered at the entrance to the club’s training ground. The group blocked access to the premises and directed insults at both players and staff as tensions spilled over after the defeat.

Security personnel were required to intervene to ensure the safety of those involved and to disperse the crowd.

The confrontation came after another disappointing result for Sevilla, who have now suffered three consecutive defeats. Their latest loss, away at Oviedo, marked the club’s 15th of the season and has left them hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Sevilla had been expected to secure at least a point from the match, particularly given their opponents’ struggles this season. However, the team failed to meet expectations, further compounding concerns among supporters.

With only eight matches remaining in the campaign, Sevilla sit just two points above the drop zone. The prospect of relegation — which would be their first since the 1999/2000 season — has heightened anxiety among fans and intensified scrutiny of the team’s performances.

The reaction from supporters reflects growing frustration at the club’s form. Once considered one of Spain’s more consistent top-flight sides, Sevilla now face a battle to maintain their status in La Liga.

Incidents involving fan unrest are not uncommon in football during periods of poor results, but the scale and nature of this confrontation underline the pressure currently facing the squad.

While no injuries were reported, the episode highlights the increasingly volatile atmosphere surrounding the club as the season approaches its conclusion.

Sevilla have yet to publicly comment in detail on the incident, but the focus will now turn to their remaining fixtures, with the team needing a swift improvement in results to avoid relegation.

For players such as Ejuke and Adams, the incident represents an unsettling moment in what is already a challenging period for the club. As the relegation battle intensifies, both the team’s performances and the behaviour of supporters are likely to remain under close watch.
