Nigeria begin preparations in Turkey ahead of friendlies

The Nigeria national football team have opened their training camp in Antalya as preparations get under way for the upcoming international fixtures.

Coaches and team officials are already in the country, with the technical team led by Eric Chelle expected to begin full activities once all members of the squad have arrived. Chelle is joined by assistants Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu as part of the backroom staff overseeing the preparations.

Players invited for the camp are due to arrive throughout the day, with the squad expected to be fully assembled before the end of business. The training camp marks the start of Nigeria’s build-up to two international friendlies scheduled during the current window.

Nigeria will face Iran national football team on 27 March, before taking on Jordan national football team on 31 March. Both matches will be played in Turkey, after the second fixture was moved from Jordan due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The camp provides an opportunity for Chelle to work closely with his players as he continues to shape the team. A 23-man squad has been named for the friendlies, including three new call-ups ;  Emmanuel Fernandez, Philip Otele and Collins Yira Sor  who will be looking to make an impression at international level.

Their inclusion reflects an effort to introduce fresh talent into the squad while maintaining a core of more experienced players. The coaching staff are expected to use the matches to test combinations, assess individual performances and further develop tactical approaches.

These fixtures are seen as an important step in Nigeria’s ongoing preparations, offering a platform to build cohesion within the squad and evaluate progress. With a mix of established names and new additions, the technical crew will be aiming to strike the right balance as they continue to refine the team.

The encounter against Iran is scheduled to kick off at 16:00, while the match against Jordan will take place later in the evening. Both games are expected to provide valuable insights into the team’s readiness and overall development.
