Neftchi PFK weigh move for IF Gnistan striker Adeleke Akinyemi

Nigeria forward Adeleke Akinyemi, currently at Finland’s IF Gnistan, has been linked with a move to Azerbaijan’s Neftchi PFK.

The 28-year-old centre-forward is being associated with a switch from the Veikkausliiga to the Premyer Liqa, with the potential move emerging on 2 September 2026.

Akinyemi has made a strong start to the 2026 Veikkausliiga season, appearing in all 22 of Gnistan’s matches and scoring 13 goals, with one assist. He has started 91% of those games and has been involved in 39% of the club’s league goals.

The striker joined Gnistan from fellow Finnish club Ilves on 27 January 2026 in a free transfer. His move to Neftchi would therefore represent a second change of club within Finland’s top flight in the same calendar year.

Akinyemi’s earlier career included spells in Norway, Albania, Latvia, the Czech Republic and Kosovo. He won the Latvian Cup with JFK Ventspils in 2017 and was part of the MFK Karvina side that won the Czech second division in 2022-23.

He remains under contract at IF Gnistan until 31 December 2027, meaning any move to Neftchi would require an agreement between the clubs.
