The debate over the standard of the Saudi Pro League compared with Europe’s leading competitions has continued after Cristiano Ronaldo made a controversial comparison between the Saudi league and France’s Ligue 1.
Nathan Zeze has now offered a different assessment from the Portugal international. The young French central defender, who currently plays for Saudi club NEOM after previously representing Nantes, believes Ligue 1 remains the stronger competition overall.
Zeze acknowledges the progress made by football in Saudi Arabia and recognises the high level of ability within several Saudi Pro League teams. However, he considers the French top flight to retain an advantage, particularly in the atmosphere created by supporters in the stands and the intensity of matches.
