Napoli are considering a move for Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus as they reshape their attack, with the Brazilian emerging as a potential high-profile signing for Serie A.
Massimiliano Allegri is expected to build Napoli’s frontline around Rasmus Højlund, but the club are reviewing their options beyond the Denmark international. Romelu Lukaku’s future at Napoli is increasingly uncertain, while Lorenzo Lucca has not provided enough guarantees to secure his place in the long-term plan.
That has prompted the club to explore a statement signing, and Gabriel Jesus is regarded as a player who could meet those ambitions.
According to calciomercato.com, Napoli’s interest in Jesus is being considered seriously rather than as a purely speculative option. Corriere dello Sport also reports that the forward is open to taking on a new challenge away from the Premier League.
Arsenal are understood to value Jesus at about €20m. Napoli hope the player’s willingness to leave England could strengthen their position in negotiations and allow them to agree more favourable terms.
The structure of any potential deal is likely to be a significant factor. Citing Fabrizio Romano, calciomercato.com says a permanent transfer would be more realistic than a loan arrangement.
A loan would require Arsenal to extend Jesus’ contract, which currently runs until 2027. That additional complication could make a temporary move less attractive to the London club and encourage Napoli to focus on a permanent agreement instead.
Jesus has also recently joined the same agency that represents Allegri. That relationship could help facilitate discussions between the player and the Napoli manager, although it is not presented as a guarantee that a transfer will take place.
The connection has already played a part in Jesus being considered by Milan during January, and Napoli are now assessing whether they can take the next step in pursuing him.
For the deal to become possible, however, Napoli would first need to create space in their attacking group. Lukaku is a firm target for Atlanta United in Major League Soccer, while Lucca would also have to leave the club.
Lukaku’s anticipated departure would remove one of the senior options from Napoli’s frontline, while Lucca’s exit would further open the way for the club to recruit another forward behind Højlund.
Jesus has been identified as the latest potential addition as Allegri’s side weigh up how to strengthen their attack. The club’s priorities appear to be shaped by Lukaku’s uncertain position, doubts over Lucca and the prospect of building the next phase of the team around Højlund.
