Napoli are set to sign Italian defender Costantino Favasuli, who has arrived at Rome’s Villa Stuart to undergo medical tests before completing an initial loan move from Serie B club Catanzaro.
The deal will cost Napoli €1m for the one-season loan, with an obligation to buy understood to be set at about €6m. Favasuli’s move to the Partenopei is expected to make him the latest young Italian player to join the club.
The 22-year-old was welcomed by several Napoli supporters when he arrived at the medical facility on Tuesday morning. He is regarded as one of the most promising young left-backs in Italian football, although his versatility has seen him operate mainly at right-back.
Favasuli can also play on the left flank, giving Napoli another option across the full-back positions. His performances for Catanzaro last season helped the club reach the Serie B play-off final.
He made 36 appearances during the campaign, scoring twice and providing seven assists. Those displays contributed to his emergence as one of the more highly rated young defenders in Italy and helped earn him recognition at international level.
In June, Favasuli made his senior Italy debut under caretaker coach Silvio Baldini. He featured in both of Italy’s friendly matches against Greece and Luxembourg, marking his first appearances for the national team.
The defender is now undergoing the final medical checks required before his transfer to Napoli can be completed. Subject to the outcome of those tests and the conclusion of the formalities, he will join the club initially on loan from Catanzaro, with the permanent transfer to follow under the agreed obligation to buy.
Napoli’s payment structure means the club will spend €1m immediately for the temporary move and could commit a further sum of around €6m to secure Favasuli permanently. The arrangement reflects the club’s interest in a player who has already gained first-team experience in Serie B and made his senior Italy debut at the age of 22.
Favasuli’s arrival at Villa Stuart represents the latest stage of negotiations between Napoli and Catanzaro. The full-back’s ability to play on either side of the defence, combined with his attacking contribution last season, has made him an attractive addition for the Partenopei.
With his medical now under way, Favasuli is close to becoming a Napoli player.
