Nabil Bentaleb is considering a move to Lyon after reaching the end of his contract with Lille, with the former Tottenham midfielder yet to decide where he will play next season.
The 31-year-old Algeria international is currently out of contract despite having been offered an extension by LOSC. He has opted to use his holiday period to reflect before making what could be a defining decision for the latter stage of his career.
Bentaleb spent the 2025-26 campaign with Lille and, after a solid season in Ligue 1, remains a highly regarded option on the transfer market. His blend of experience, technique and game management continues to draw interest from several clubs in France and beyond.
Lyon move gathers pace
Among those reportedly pushing hardest for his signature is Olympique Lyonnais.
According to French outlet Onze Mondial, Lyon coach Paulo Fonseca is keen to reunite with Bentaleb and has made him a priority target for his midfield.
The potential move carries extra weight because Fonseca and Bentaleb know each other well. The pair worked together at Lille during the 2023-24 season, when the Portuguese manager relied on the Algerian’s composure and passing range at the heart of his side.
That previous relationship is seen as a key factor in Bentaleb’s thinking, with Fonseca’s vision and promises for his role at Lyon expected to heavily influence the final decision.
Contract offer on the table
Lyon are understood not to have limited themselves to informal talks.
The club from the Rhone region have reportedly submitted a formal contract proposal to Bentaleb, although the exact length and financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Lille, however, are not ready to give up on Bentaleb.

LOSC view Bentaleb as a stabilising presence and believe his influence on and off the pitch would be difficult to replace without a major outlay in the transfer market.
