Real Madrid have won all six of their home matches this season under Jose Mourinho, with the Santiago Bernabeu once again proving a difficult venue for visiting teams.
Mourinho, the experienced Portuguese manager, has overseen a strong start on home soil during both his first spell and his current tenure at the club. Real Madrid will aim to maintain that record when they face German side Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening in the third round of the Champions League.
The Spanish newspaper AS highlighted the improvement in Real Madrid’s attacking output. The club have scored 19 goals across their first six home matches of the season, an average of 3.17 per game.
That represents a significant increase on the same stage last season, when Real Madrid scored 11 goals under former manager Xabi Alonso.
Mourinho is set to take charge of his 95th match in total at the Santiago Bernabeu. According to AS, he has won 80 of his previous 94 games at the stadium, giving him a win rate of 85%.
Real Madrid enter Wednesday’s match ninth in the Champions League table with six points. Leipzig are 23rd, having collected three points from their opening two matches.
The fixture comes shortly before a major domestic test for Real Madrid, who will travel to face rivals Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday in La Liga.
That match is expected to carry considerable importance in the race for the domestic title, with Real Madrid looking to carry their home form into one of the season’s most significant league meetings.
