Al Ahly have ended speculation over Mostafa Shobeir’s future by confirming the Egypt goalkeeper has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2029.
The Egyptian club announced the agreement on Tuesday, following a period of uncertainty surrounding the 25-year-old, whose performances for the Pharaohs at the most recent World Cup had reportedly led to several offers.
Shobeir’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the current season. Negotiations between the player and Al Ahly had continued in recent months before both parties reached a formal agreement.
Al Ahly said in an official statement: “Mostafa Shobeir, goalkeeper of the club’s first football team, extended his contract with the club until 2029 after today’s training session.”
The club added that the agreement was completed during a meeting between Shobeir and Dr Essam Serag, head of the contracts sector.
“Dr Essam Serag completed all the administrative and financial procedures in accordance with the club’s rules in this regard, in full coordination with the team’s football director, Wael Gomaa,” the statement continued.
“ The player expressed his happiness at extending his contract and continuing his career with Al Ahly during the coming years.”
The decision brings an end to questions about whether Shobeir would remain with the club beyond the current campaign. His existing contract had been approaching its final months, while the negotiations took place against the backdrop of the interest he attracted after representing Egypt at the last World Cup.
By agreeing terms through 2029, Al Ahly have secured the goalkeeper’s services for the next several years and removed the possibility of his current agreement expiring at the end of the season.
The club said the new deal followed the completion of the necessary financial and administrative arrangements, with the process handled by its contracts department and coordinated with Gomaa.
Shobeir also made clear that he was pleased with the outcome and wanted to continue his time at Al Ahly. The extension therefore represents an agreement between the club and player after months of discussions, rather than a departure following the offers he received.
