Morocco made it two wins from two in their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign by beating Lesotho 2-0 in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, although head coach Mohamed Ouahbi said the team must improve its finishing.
Brahim Diaz opened the scoring in the 45th minute before Azzedine Ounahi added a second in the 82nd minute at the Free State Toyota Stadium in South Africa.
The result followed Morocco’s 2-0 victory over Gabon in Rabat four days earlier and leaves the Atlas Lions top of Group A with six points.
Morocco have scored four goals across their opening two matches and have yet to concede. They have also completed the international window without suffering any injuries.
Ouahbi expressed his satisfaction during an interview with Arryadia in the mixed zone, but identified missed chances as the main area for improvement. Zakaria El Ouahdi and Ounahi both had opportunities to put Morocco ahead during the first half before Diaz eventually broke the deadlock.
“Yes, we won the match, but…,” Ouahbi said, highlighting the need for greater efficiency in front of goal despite another clean sheet and a second successive victory.
Morocco were scheduled to face Ghana in a friendly in Tangier next Sunday, but that fixture is now at risk of being cancelled.
With no alternative opponent currently available, the team’s training camp could end earlier than planned. The situation remains unresolved.
