Morocco line up Norway clash in final world cup warm-up

The Moroccan Football Federation has confirmed that the national team will face Norway national football team in a high-profile international friendly as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

The match, scheduled for 7 June, will serve as a key test for Morocco ahead of the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Final Preparations Before Tournament Kick-off

According to the federation, the fixture will take place at Sports Illustrated Stadium, with kick-off set for 3:00 PM local time.

In a statement released on Tuesday, 14 April, the federation said:
“As part of its preparations to participate in the World Cup finals next summer, which will be held jointly in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the first national team will play a friendly match against the Norwegian national team.”

The June training camp is expected to be Morocco’s final opportunity to refine tactics and squad cohesion before the tournament begins on 11 June.

Strategic Opponent Selection

The decision to face Norway is understood to be a tactical one. The European side’s playing style is seen as comparable to that of Scotland national football team, one of Morocco’s group-stage opponents.

Morocco have been drawn into Group C, where they will compete against Brazil national football team, Scotland and Haiti national football team.

The North African side enters the competition with significant expectations, having finished fourth in the previous edition of the tournament.

Spotlight on Haaland and Norway

The friendly will also see Morocco come up against one of Europe’s most prominent attacking talents, Erling Haaland, who leads the Norwegian squad.

Facing a team with such attacking strength is expected to provide Morocco with a valuable defensive test ahead of the World Cup, where they will encounter a range of tactical approaches.

Recent Form and Build-Up Matches

Morocco have already begun their preparations through earlier friendlies. During their March training camp, they faced Ecuador national football team and Paraguay national football team.

They drew 1-1 with Ecuador before securing a 2-1 victory over Paraguay, results that offered early indications of their form ahead of the global tournament.

Countdown to World Cup Begins

With no additional friendlies yet announced, the clash with Norway is set to play a crucial role in Morocco’s final preparations. The encounter offers both a competitive challenge and a strategic rehearsal against European opposition.

As the countdown to the World Cup continues, Morocco will look to build on recent successes and carry momentum into a demanding group stage, where expectations remain high following their historic performance in the previous edition.
