An official source within the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has dismissed reports suggesting Thiago Pitarch is reconsidering his international future and preparing to abandon Spain national football team in favour of representing Morocco national football team.
The speculation surrounding the young Real Madrid CF talent had generated widespread discussion across Moroccan and Spanish football circles in recent days after reports claimed the midfielder wanted to reverse his previous decision and join Morocco’s national project.
According to those reports, Pitarch had allegedly become concerned about competition for places in Spain’s midfield ahead of the 2026 World Cup and was therefore considering changing his sporting nationality to improve his chances of participating in the tournament.
However, sources within the Moroccan Football Federation have now firmly rejected those claims.
In statements obtained by the WinWin platform, the source said the federation had not received any official communication from either the player or representatives close to him regarding a possible switch in allegiance.
The source stressed that Pitarch had already made a clear and public decision to represent Spain and had previously rejected Morocco’s approach.
According to the same official, no developments have emerged since that decision was announced.
The source also revealed that members of Morocco’s scouting and talent recruitment network based in Spain have not reopened discussions with the player in recent weeks.
Officials within the federation therefore believe there has been no renewed interest from Pitarch in changing his international position.
The clarification was issued in response to growing rumours circulating on social media platforms, where reports suggested the player had decided to step away from Spain’s youth setup in order to pursue a future with Morocco.
The federation source insisted there had been no official indication supporting those claims.
At the same time, the Moroccan Football Federation reiterated that its doors remain open to players of Moroccan heritage who genuinely wish to represent the national side.
According to the source, the federation continues to prioritise commitment and conviction when identifying players capable of contributing to the national team’s long-term sporting project.
The official added that any player proud to wear the jersey of the “Atlas Lions” would receive full support from both the technical staff and the federation’s leadership.
Despite denying the latest reports involving Pitarch, the source also made clear that the matter had not been permanently closed.
Morocco’s football authorities, the source explained, continue to respect the personal decisions and sporting ambitions of all eligible players while maintaining efforts to recruit top talents with Moroccan roots from across Europe and other regions.
That strategy has become increasingly important for Morocco in recent years as the federation seeks to strengthen national teams across multiple age groups by attracting dual-nationality players developed abroad.
The issue remains particularly sensitive given the growing competition between national teams to secure emerging talent with eligibility for more than one country.
Pitarch, regarded as one of Real Madrid’s promising young midfield prospects, remains officially tied to Spain following his earlier public commitment to La Roja.
For now, Moroccan officials insist there has been no change in the player’s stance despite the intense speculation that has surrounded his international future in recent days.
