Morocco FA breaks silence after CAF appeals ruling on 2025 AFCON final

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has acknowledged the ruling delivered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Committee on the 2025 AFCON final, stating that its actions were guided by a desire to uphold competition regulations rather than to dispute sporting outcomes.

In a statement released following the decision, the federation emphasised that its approach had not been aimed at questioning the performances of teams involved in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Instead, it said its objective had been limited to ensuring that the established rules governing the tournament were properly applied.

“The Federation wishes to recall that its approach has never been intended to challenge the sporting performance of the teams participating in this competition, but solely to request the application of the competition’s regulations,” the statement said.

The Moroccan body signalled that a more comprehensive response would follow after further internal discussions.

“The Federation reaffirms its commitment to respecting the rules, ensuring clarity in the competitive framework, and maintaining stability within African competitions,” the statement added.

A formal announcement is expected to be issued by Morocco on Wednesday following their victory as AFCON 2025 champions.

“The Federation will make an official statement tomorrow, after convening its governing bodies,” it concluded.

As it stands, Morocco are 2025 Africa Cup of Nations winners, despite Senegal securing a 1-0 victory in extra time of the chaotic final.
