Morocco coach Ouahbi welcomes CAF ruling as Atlas Lions eye World Cup push

Confederation of African Football’s decision to strip Senegal of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco continues to generate strong reactions, with Morocco’s newly appointed head coach Mohamed Ouahbi publicly backing the ruling.

Speaking on Thursday, 19 March, during a press conference to unveil his squad for the upcoming international fixtures, Ouahbi addressed the controversy directly, making it clear he supports the governing body’s decision.

His remarks come amid ongoing debate across African football following CAF’s unexpected move, which has reshaped the outcome of the tournament after the fact.

The decision has reverberated widely, drawing attention from fans, analysts and officials across the continent.

Ouahbi welcomed the development, framing it as a positive step for his squad.

“This is very good news. I think it can only be positive. It is a decision taken by CAF; the federation has played a significant part in this, but everything concerning what happened previously during the Africa Cup of Nations will be handled by the federation and the relevant authorities.”

While the controversy surrounding the title change continues to unfold, Ouahbi emphasised that his primary concern is preparing his players for upcoming competitions. He indicated that the team is already looking beyond the dispute and focusing on maintaining performance levels at the highest stage.

“I will have a squad of players who are highly motivated to perform well at the World Cup.”
