Morocco awarded AFCON 2025 title as Tchouaméni congratulates Díaz

Aurélien Tchouaméni has congratulated his Morocco national football team teammate Brahim Díaz following Morocco’s victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, after a decision by the Confederation of African Football awarded them the title.

The Real Madrid midfielder was speaking after his club’s 2-1 win over Manchester City, reacting to developments surrounding the tournament’s final.

Tchouaméni expresses surprise at decision

Tchouaméni admitted he was taken aback by the circumstances under which Morocco were declared champions, suggesting he was not fully aware of the details behind the decision.

“Really? I don’t know what to say,” Chuamini said in remarks following Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City. “I’m sure Brahim will be happy, but I don’t know why it happened or what went wrong.”

Despite his uncertainty, the French international expressed support for his teammate, who represents Morocco at international level.

Promise of celebration at real madrid

The midfielder indicated that Díaz would be warmly received by his club teammates if he officially becomes an African champion.

“But if Brahim becomes the African champion, we will give him a gift along with the whole team,” adds the Real Madrid player.

The comments reflect a sense of camaraderie within the Real Madrid squad, where players from different national backgrounds often celebrate each other’s international achievements.

CAF appeals committee decision

The outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final was determined following a ruling by the Confederation of African Football’s Appeals Committee.

According to the decision, the committee accepted an appeal submitted by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. It subsequently ruled that the Senegal national football team had withdrawn from the final.

As a result, the title was officially awarded to Morocco, bringing an unusual conclusion to the tournament.

Unusual end to continental tournament

The circumstances surrounding the final have drawn attention due to the administrative nature of the decision, rather than the outcome being settled on the pitch.

While Morocco have been confirmed as champions, reactions from players such as Tchouaméni suggest that not all involved were immediately aware of the details leading to the verdict.

Nevertheless, the decision stands as the official conclusion to the competition, with Morocco recognised as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations winners.

Focus turns to recognition

With the title now awarded, attention is likely to shift towards how the victory is marked, both within Morocco and among players’ clubs.

For Díaz, the recognition could soon be celebrated at Real Madrid, as hinted by Tchouaméni’s remarks. Despite initial confusion, the mood among teammates appears supportive, underlining the significance of continental success in international football.
