Mohamed Salah is expected to return to the Egypt squad for November’s Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers, with the country’s sports ministry saying there is currently no dispute between the Liverpool captain and head coach Hossam Hassan.
The announcement follows Salah’s departure from the national team’s training camp after Egypt’s qualifying match against Angola. The forward appeared unhappy after being substituted 60 minutes into the game, and subsequently left the camp.
Egypt then played their next two qualifiers against South Sudan before facing South Africa in a friendly on Monday.
Mohamed El Shazly, the official spokesman for Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, said the situation was now moving towards a solution and that the atmosphere around the national team was becoming more stable.
“There is currently no crisis between Salah and the national team’s coaching staff,” El Shazly told Egyptian television channel Modern MTI, in comments reported by Alarabiya on Monday.
He said Salah would rejoin the squad for the November camp, adding that Egypt were moving in a positive direction by focusing on discipline and creating the right conditions to restore the spirit that existed during the World Cup.
“What happened recently must be forgotten and must not leave any negative effects in the coming period,” El Shazly said.
He also stressed Salah’s importance to Egyptian football and said the player wanted calm to return to the national team.
“Mohamed Salah is one of the most important figures in the history of Egyptian sport,” he said. “He is keen for a calm atmosphere to prevail within the Egypt team, and he will be present at the next camp.”
Minister contacted Abu Rida
El Shazly revealed that Minister of Youth and Sports Joher Nabil had been in contact with all Egyptian players based abroad, rather than Salah alone, describing them as ambassadors for the country.
He added that the minister had also spoken to Hany Abu Rida, president of the Egyptian Football Association, about restoring calm and discipline within the national team.
The discussions were aimed at bringing back the atmosphere that had existed in the dressing room during the World Cup.
Egypt are due to face Malawi on 11 and 15 November in the third and fourth rounds of qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027.
