Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah is reportedly set to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan following a request linked to the Trabzonspor hierarchy.
According to reports, Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan recently held talks with Erdogan, during which the Turkish leader asked about Salah.
Dogan is said to have told Erdogan that the Liverpool forward was interested in meeting him, prompting the president to request that arrangements be made for the encounter.
Salah and Erdogan were initially expected to meet this week during the Turkish president’s scheduled visits to Samsun and Rize.
However, those plans reportedly fell through because of a scheduling clash involving Trabzonspor’s fixture against Konyaspor and Erdogan’s official engagements.
The proposed meeting has nevertheless not been abandoned, with further arrangements reportedly being made to bring the two together.
Erdogan is expected to receive Salah at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, although the exact timing will depend on the president’s schedule.
The potential encounter has attracted considerable attention in Turkey because of Salah’s global profile and his standing as one of Egypt’s most prominent sporting figures.
Salah has enjoyed a highly successful career at the highest level of European football and remains one of the most recognisable Egyptian athletes internationally.
While no date has yet been confirmed for the meeting, efforts are reportedly continuing to arrange the encounter at the earliest possible opportunity.
