Relebohile Mofokeng continued his impressive start at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise by providing his first assist of the season in a 2-0 victory over Royal Antwerp.
The 21-year-old made his third consecutive start for David Hubert’s side and played a key role as Union Saint-Gilloise returned to the top of the Jupiler Pro League.
After scoring his first Europa League goal on Thursday, Mofokeng turned provider on Saturday, setting up the opening goal in the 51st minute.
The South African picked out Mateo Biondic, who finished to put the visitors ahead at Antwerp.
Mofokeng was substituted in the 64th minute, continuing a recent pattern of Hubert taking the midfielder off before the final stages of matches.
Union Saint-Gilloise doubled their advantage in the 78th minute through Denzel De Roeve.
Antwerp had already been reduced to 10 men after Bahmed Deuff was sent off in the 69th minute, making it difficult for the hosts to mount a comeback.
The victory lifted Union Saint-Gilloise back to the top of the Belgian league with 19 points from seven matches.
They are level on points with Gent but lead the standings on goal difference, with USG boasting a +18 differential compared with Gent’s +9.
Mofokeng has now contributed to five goals in nine appearances since joining the Belgian club, scoring four times and providing one assist.
Three of his goals, along with his latest assist, have come in his last four matches, underlining the youngster’s growing influence since moving to Belgium.
