Modern Sport Club has confirmed it will pursue legal measures against its former player Hossam Hassan, following statements the club says damaged its reputation and violated contractual agreements.
The move comes after Hassan publicly discussed the circumstances surrounding the termination of his contract, making critical comments about the club’s management and advising other Egyptian league players against joining the team. His remarks quickly generated widespread reaction within the football community.
In response, the club issued an official statement strongly rejecting the claims and outlining a series of actions it intends to take.
Club Rejects Allegations and Defends Its Record
Modern Sport said it “expresses its strong condemnation and complete rejection of the recent media statements made by player Hossam Hassan , which included direct insults and fallacies aimed at undermining the club and its officials, following the completion of the procedures for terminating his contract “by mutual consent”.”
The club emphasised its commitment to transparency and insisted that the termination process was conducted in line with regulations.
Financial Obligations “Fully Settled”
Addressing one of the key points raised in the dispute, the club stated that all financial matters had been resolved prior to the player’s departure.
According to the statement, Hassan received his dues on 14 March 2026 and subsequently signed a final settlement document confirming he had no outstanding claims against the club.
This, the club argues, contradicts any suggestion of unresolved financial disagreements.
Alleged Breach of Contractual Terms
Modern Sport further accused the player of violating confidentiality provisions included in the termination agreement.
It said Hassan’s comments represented “a clear breach of the “confidentiality and non-disparagement” clause stipulated in the termination agreement, and is a clear violation of the professional integrity that players should possess.”
The club also cited what it described as a breach of the Egyptian Football Association regulations, specifically Article 11, Paragraph 13, relating to player obligations.
Formal Complaint and Legal Steps Underway
As part of its response, the club confirmed it has instructed its legal department to begin immediate proceedings.
This includes filing an official complaint with the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Egyptian Football Association, supported by documentation.
In addition, the club stated it reserves the right to pursue civil action in the courts, citing both material and reputational damage.
Club Vows to Protect Its Reputation
In concluding its statement, Modern Sport stressed that it would take a firm stance against what it described as misinformation.
It said it “will not compromise in protecting its material and moral rights against any attempt at distortion or misrepresentation,” adding that respect and adherence to regulations remain central to its operations.
The statement was issued under the authority of the club’s chief executive, Haitham Orabi.
Dispute Highlights Tensions Between Players and Clubs
The situation underscores ongoing tensions that can arise following contract terminations in professional football, particularly when disputes spill into the public domain.
While the player’s comments have sparked debate, the club’s response signals a willingness to escalate the matter through formal legal channels.
The outcome of any proceedings could have implications not only for those directly involved but also for how similar disputes are handled within Egyptian football in the future.
