Modern Sport add Ghana winger Michael Ephson to strengthen attacking options

Ghana winger Michael Ephson has joined Egypt’s Modern Sport from Heart of Lions, completing a move that takes the 22-year-old right-sided attacker into a new league.

Ephson arrives after one season with Heart of Lions, where he made 68 Premier League appearances and scored 13 goals. He also featured twice in the CAF Champions League, finding the net once.

The winger’s record places him among the more experienced young attacking players to move from Ghana’s top flight to a club outside the country. His role at Modern Sport is expected to centre on the right side of the attack, where his pace and direct running will be key elements of his game.

Ephson joined Heart of Lions from FC Samartex in August 2025. During his time with Samartex, he established himself sufficiently to earn a move within the Ghanaian Premier League before making the switch to Modern Sport a year later.

Born on 5 March 2004, Ephson stands at 1.80m and has played the majority of his senior football as a right winger. His goal return in domestic competition has been complemented by his contribution in continental football, including the goal he scored in the CAF Champions League.

Modern Sport compete in Egypt’s Premier League, giving Ephson the opportunity to continue his career in a different domestic competition after his spells with Samartex and Heart of Lions. The move also represents the next stage of a senior career that has so far included 70 appearances across the Premier League and CAF Champions League.

Ephson’s arrival adds another established wide attacking option to the Modern Sport squad, while Heart of Lions lose a player who contributed 14 goals across domestic and continental competition during the recorded period.

The transfer was completed on 15 August 2026.
