Paris Saint-Germain forward Mika Godts says he feels no additional pressure after completing a €55m move from Ajax to the two-time Champions League winners.
The Belgium international joined Paris Saint-Germain on 15 August after attracting interest from several of Europe’s leading clubs with 30 goal contributions in the Eredivisie last season.
Godts, 20, has already made his first two appearances for the French champions and says he has quickly settled into life in Paris.
“I’m really happy to be at Paris Saint-Germain. The last few days have gone well with playing my first two games,” Godts told Flashscore’s Julie Marchetti during Paris Saint-Germain’s media day on Thursday.
The winger made his debut a week after leaving Ajax, playing 45 minutes against Stade Rennais. He then came off the bench for a 27-minute spell against Lille, providing an assist in Paris Saint-Germain’s dramatic 2-2 draw with the French champions.
Godts said he did not require extensive persuasion from technical director Luis Campos before deciding to move to the French capital.
Asked what Campos had said to him in Porto to convince him to join Paris Saint-Germain, Godts replied: “He didn’t promise me anything. He talked to me a lot about the club, the coach, and all that. I’m very grateful to him.”
A conversation with manager Luis Enrique also helped clarify the expectations surrounding his move, although Godts said he had already made up his mind.
“He didn’t say much. I was already convinced. He just talked a bit about his way of working and how we could do it together. After that, it was easy for me.”
Godts made his professional debut for Ajax in 2023 and his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain represents a significant step up in his career. However, the previous season’s Eredivisie MVP insists the change has not created any additional burden.
“I came because it’s a big club and I just want to learn a lot and play. There’s no extra pressure for me. I’m calm. I came here to play and to learn.”
The Belgian also believes he can contribute in a variety of attacking roles. Rather than focusing on one fixed position, he said he was prepared to play wherever Luis Enrique needed him.
“I can play anywhere. So on the right, as a number 9, as a number 10, on the left. I just want to play, so it’s up to the coach.”
Godts could make his first appearance at Parc des Princes this weekend, when Paris Saint-Germain host Monaco in Paris on Friday, 4 September.
