Medeama lose top spot as Gold Stars take control of GPL race

Medeama SC have seen their once-commanding lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League slip away after a 2-1 defeat to Dreams FC, a result that has dramatically altered the title race with eight matches remaining.

The Mauve and Yellow, who previously held an eight-point cushion, have now dropped to second place on 46 points. Defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars have taken advantage of Medeama’s recent dip in form, moving two points clear at the summit following their narrow 1-0 win over Vision FC.

At the Tuba AstroTurf, Dreams FC produced a disciplined and efficient display to inflict another setback on Medeama. Adams Aminu opened the scoring in the 19th minute, rewarding a strong start from the hosts, before Abdul Razak Salifu doubled the lead early in the second half, striking just two minutes after the restart to put Dreams firmly in control.

Medeama attempted to mount a response, and winger Kelvin Nkrumah gave them hope with a well-taken goal that reduced the deficit. The goal sparked renewed pressure from Ibrahim Tanko’s side, but despite pushing forward in search of an equaliser, they were unable to break through again.

The defeat marks Medeama’s fourth loss of the campaign and comes at a critical stage of the season where consistency is vital. Their earlier dominance at the top has now been replaced by a more precarious position, with momentum shifting toward Bibiani Gold Stars.

For Dreams FC, the victory is a significant boost, both in terms of points and confidence, as they continue to navigate the closing stages of the season with a strong performance against the league leaders.

With the title race now finely poised, Medeama face a defining period in their campaign. The challenge ahead will require both tactical adjustments and mental resilience as they attempt to reclaim the top spot and keep their championship hopes alive in what is shaping up to be a tightly contested finish to the season.
