Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo continued his scoring run for Manchester United by finding the net in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Leeds United, moving to the top of the club’s Premier League goalscoring charts.
Mbeumo opened the scoring in the 35th minute at Elland Road on 18 October, extending his run to two consecutive league matches with a goal.
However, his effort was not enough to secure victory for Manchester United, who were held by their hosts after the break.
The Cameroonian international’s latest strike takes his Premier League tally to four goals this season, making him Manchester United’s leading scorer in the competition based on the statistics available after the match.
He has scored five times in all competitions this campaign.
Mbeumo’s continued contribution offers encouragement for the club as they look to improve their attacking consistency. Having scored in consecutive matches, the forward is maintaining his momentum and establishing himself as an important figure in United’s forward line.
His goal against Leeds came after an attacking move that began on the right flank, involving Amad Diallo and Youri Tielemans before Mbeumo finished the opportunity in the 35th minute.
The strike put Manchester United ahead and appeared to give them a platform from which to pursue all three points.
But Leeds responded after half-time, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalising in the 51st minute following a corner.
Both sides had opportunities to find a winner during the final half-hour, but neither could produce another goal.
The contest therefore ended level, leaving United to settle for a point despite Mbeumo’s contribution.
For the Cameroon forward, however, the match provided another indication of his current form. Scoring in successive league appearances has helped him move ahead of his Manchester United team-mates in the club’s Premier League scoring standings.
Across the English top flight, Mbeumo’s four goals place him among the league’s leading scorers. He is level with several other players in a group ranked around eighth in the standings.
Erling Haaland leads the scoring race with eight goals, while João Pedro and Alexander Isak had five each in the rankings published before Sunday’s matches.
Mbeumo’s latest effort brings him closer to that group as the campaign continues.
Mbeumo’s scoring streak remains a positive for both the player and Cameroon, with the forward continuing to demonstrate his value at one of England’s leading clubs.
For Manchester United, the challenge is to ensure that his goals translate into better results.
