Kylian Mbappe remains sidelined at Real Madrid after suffering a hyperextension to his left knee while on international duty with France, casting fresh doubt over his availability for the club’s 10 October match against Villarreal.
Real Madrid and France agreed that Mbappe should return to the Spanish capital for immediate treatment. However, neither side has confirmed how long the forward will be unavailable.
A statement from Real Madrid said: “After tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s medical department on our player Kylian Mbappe, he’s been diagnosed with a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee.”
Initial assessments had suggested Mbappe would recover in time to train before the Villarreal fixture. That prospect is now in serious doubt, with the France captain yet to resume work with the squad.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Mbappe returned to Madrid five days ago but has not trained since. He was also seen at a party in Paris last Wednesday with his partner, Ester Exposito.
There is reportedly no concern at Real Madrid about Mbappe attending the event. Jose Mourinho sanctioned a break for the club’s non-international players, who have continued training at Valdebebas.
