Mbappe explains the qualities he believes make a good France captain

Kylian Mbappe says an effective captain must unite a team, motivate those around him and create the best possible conditions for his team-mates.

Mbappe has worn the France captain’s armband since Hugo Lloris retired from international football in 2022. The 25-year-old has taken to the responsibility and, after almost three years in the role, believes he has a clear understanding of what leadership demands.

“Everyone has their own definition of a captain,” Mbappe told Onze Mondial. “But a good captain is someone who can motivate those around them, knows how to unite everyone and knows how to open themselves up to others.

“They will do everything possible to put their team-mates and the team in the best possible conditions.”
