Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin is reportedly close to joining Serie B club Palermo, with the proposed transfer potentially helping the Turin side finance a move for free agent Franck Kessie.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, negotiations between Perin and Palermo have reached the final stage, with only the remaining details to be settled before the goalkeeper’s move to Serie B can be completed.
The transfer would bring an end to Perin’s time with Juventus and give the club one final opportunity to receive a fee for the former Genoa goalkeeper. The 33-year-old is under contract with the Bianconeri only until the end of the current season, meaning a departure now would allow Juventus to generate income from the player rather than risk losing him without a transfer fee later.
Palermo are understood to be offering Perin a two-year contract. The proposed agreement would also include an automatic one-year extension if the Sicilian club win promotion to Serie A.
The deal forms part of a wider reshaping of Juventus’ goalkeeping department this summer. The club are overhauling their options in that position, with Michele Di Gregorio reportedly close to returning to former club Monza after Guglielmo Vicario arrived on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
Perin’s possible departure would therefore be another significant change in a Juventus squad undergoing a major adjustment. While the goalkeeper has remained under contract, his move to Palermo would create both space within the squad and funds that could be redirected towards other areas of the team.
The report suggests that Juventus may use the money generated by Perin’s sale to help cover the salary demands of Kessie. The midfielder is currently a free agent after leaving Al-Ahli and, at the age of 29, could be available without a transfer fee.
Kessie would also bring previous Serie A experience to any potential Juventus move. The Ivory Coast midfielder played for Atalanta and Milan before leaving the Italian top flight in 2022.
For now, Perin’s transfer is still reported to be at the stage of completing the final details. If the agreement is finalised, Palermo would secure an experienced goalkeeper while Juventus would continue their summer goalkeeping overhaul and potentially improve their ability to pursue Kessie.
The proposed move could consequently benefit both sides of Juventus’ transfer plans: Perin would leave as his contract approaches its expiry, while the resulting income could help the Bianconeri strengthen their midfield options with the signing of the former Atalanta and Milan player.
