Borussia Dortmund winger Matis Albert became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the United States men’s national team after scoring on his second international appearance.
The 17-year-old came off the bench in the 72nd minute of a friendly against Chile before finding the net in the 93rd minute to complete a 4-2 victory for the USA.
According to ESPN, Albert was 17 years and 131 days old when he scored. He surpassed the previous record held by Christian Pulisic, who was 17 years and 253 days old when he found the net for the United States. Pulisic also played for Borussia Dortmund.
Albert’s appearance against Chile was his second for the national side. He has also made two appearances for Borussia Dortmund’s first team, although he is yet to score at club level.
The United States, managed by Mauricio Pochettino, will face Mexico in another friendly on 4 October.
