France-Cameroon midfielder Mathis Amougou has joined Toulouse from Strasbourg on loan, completing a move that keeps the 20-year-old in Ligue 1 until 30 June 2027.
Amougou, who plays in central midfield and is right-footed, arrives at Toulouse after a season with Strasbourg. He joined the Alsace club from Chelsea in July 2025 in a €14.5m transfer, having spent only a short period with the Premier League side.
The midfielder moved to Chelsea from Saint-Etienne in February 2025 for €15m. During his time in England, he was part of the Chelsea squad that won the Conference League in the 2024-25 season.
His move to Toulouse represents a return to France, where Amougou began his senior career with Saint-Etienne. He progressed from the club’s academy sides into the first-team structure before making his move to Chelsea.
Amougou’s arrival gives Toulouse a France-born midfielder with dual French and Cameroonian nationality and experience of transfers between clubs in Ligue 1 and the Premier League. He is listed at 1.77m and has been used primarily in the centre of midfield.
Toulouse’s move was completed on 1 September 2026, with the player joining from Strasbourg for the 2026-27 campaign. The transfer is a loan rather than a permanent change of club, and the agreement includes a return to Strasbourg at the end of the spell.
Amougou’s career has moved quickly since he left Saint-Etienne’s youth system. He joined Saint-Etienne B in July 2023, stepped into the senior club a year later and then transferred to Chelsea in the middle of the 2024-25 season. His subsequent move to Strasbourg preceded this latest switch to Toulouse.
He now returns to Ligue 1 with a current market value of €9m and a contract arrangement that takes his Toulouse loan through to the end of June 2027. Mathis Amougou has completed his loan move from Strasbourg to Toulouse.
