Marseille opened their 2026-27 Ligue 1 campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Strasbourg, giving their supporters plenty to celebrate at the start of the new season.
The hosts controlled much of the first half and maintained the initiative, but were unable to turn their early pressure into a goal before the interval. Strasbourg managed to remain level until shortly after half-time, when Marseille finally broke through.
Amine Gouiri put the home side ahead, finishing a move created by Angel Gomes. The opening goal rewarded Marseille’s dominance and gave them the platform to take control of the contest.
Strasbourg’s task became considerably more difficult in the 59th minute when Samir El Mourabet was shown a red card. The visitors were reduced to 10 players, and Marseille quickly made their numerical advantage count as they increased the pressure in attack.
Gouiri added a second goal from the penalty spot in the 68th minute to complete his brace. His second strike placed Marseille firmly in command and left Strasbourg facing a heavy defeat in their opening fixture.
The home side continued to threaten until the final whistle and added two more goals. Keylian Abdallah found the net before Pierre-Emile Højbjerg also scored, completing a comprehensive victory for Marseille.
The result gives Marseille an ideal start to the Ligue 1 season, while Strasbourg must regroup after conceding four times in their first match of the 2026-27 campaign.
